Since 2005, the College of Nursing at Brigham Young University has held local and international clinical practicums for nursing students as part of its inspiring learning focus. Practicums are held in eight international locations: the Czech Republic, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Spain, Taiwan, Tonga, and Zambia. There are also two experiences—disadvantaged populations and veterans—in the United States. While these international learning experiences are life changing for students and greatly impact their patient care, the additional cost is an unfortunate factor in deciding which learning experience to attend. Thankfully, because of generous donors, students can receive student aid to help with the costs of studying abroad.
During the 2023 public and global nursing inspiring learning experiences, 124 students gained valuable insights and life lessons that enriched their nursing perspectives. They saw the respectful exchange of beliefs among different religions, which taught them the significance of respecting patients’ wishes based on their cultural and religious beliefs.
Camie Mendon’s father operated a plant nursery near Paradise, California, a town that, in practical terms, no longer exists. The business was destroyed - along with most of the town - in the devastating Camp Fire of 2018.
2,878 BYU students took part in 204 BYU study abroad programs located in 61 countries.
